Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity Australia is part of a global network which is the world’s number one not-for-profit provider of housing for low income families in need. Habitat for Humanity provides a ‘hand up not a hand out’. Through donations of money and materials, and the use of volunteer labour, Habitat builds and renovates houses. Habitat has built over 300,000 houses in more than 94 countries.

In March 2011 Pottinger supported Habitat for Humanity’s Hand in Hand Build Nepal project by sponsoring the participation of Pottinger team member Olivia Loadwick, who participated in the project. As part of the Hand in Hand project, Habitat for Humanity Australia partnered with 100 Australian women, who each donated $5,000 and travelled to Nepal to help build homes for some of the most impoverished female led families. The project raised over $500,000, which will assist 250 female headed families living in poverty over the next two-years. The project provides more than funds, bricks and mortar. It will allow children to be raised healthier and achieve a higher standard of education. It will also open avenues of employment for the women including entrepreneurial businesses. It will ensure these families have access to safe water and sanitation.

Olivia has continued in her work with Habitat for Humanity Australia and serves on the Habitat Women Committee.
